2005 Castillo de Malueda
Bodegas y Vinedos de Jalon
Grenache Tempranillo blend
Calatayud DO, Aragon, Spain
13.5% - $12 - Metro Vino
This wine is a lot bigger than I expected. It could be because its a 2005. It has cola and spice on the nose and not much fruit. The palate is all about tannins, big tannins and not much else, well there could be a bit of red fruits and maybe chocolate but...did I mention the tannins? The wine wasn't bad, the second day I had it open it got better, so it would make me think that it would age awhile and would probably be better, I would buy again.

2004 Vin de Pays d'Oc - Chapoutier - Cigala
This must be Chapoutier's bastard child because I couldn't find any info on his website.
The bottle say it is a Syrah Grenache blend but I don't know what percentages. I am guessing there is more grenache than syrah. It is $12 and is from the Vin de Pays d'Oc area which is pretty much any where from the south of France. It's a very average wine that is light and soft on the palate. It's not offensive and very easy to drink, but it leaves you wanting something more. I have had better wine at $12 but not a lot. That doesn't mean this wine is good, I probably won't buy this again. The Chapoutier - Belleruche is way better and only a couple of loonies more...but then again try it for yourself it's only $12.
